Natural disasters are still lurking Philippines. After the floods which makes hundreds of lives lost, is now happening in the mining area landslide that killed 25 people. Meanwhile, more than 100 people still missing workers.
According to news agency Reuters on Thursday, January 5, 2012, landslides occurred today at 03.00 local time in mining gold and copper Barangay Napnapan, southern Philippines. Some of the wounded were rushed to hospital, while the search for other victims are still ongoing.
Avalanche allegedly due to heavy rain which flushed the Philippines for some time now. The rain resulted in the surface soil so brittle and cracked, add bad soil conditions due to previous landslides.
"No rain, suddenly we were awakened by the falling rocks hit our house," said one miner, Saul Pinggoy. Armed with shovels and bare hands, he and other residents together to perform the evacuation process.
Head of the national disaster management Benito Ramos then deploy troops to assist the evacuation process. Previously, the residents have urged the government to move for security reasons, but the appeal was to no avail.
