US-origin leading aircraft manufacturer, Boeing Co.., Plans for a plant in the city of Wichita near the end of 2013. According to Reuters, Boeing announced it's difficult decision on Wednesday. This drew criticism from politicians in the U.S. state of Kansas, Boeing had felt violated their commitment to the region.
"Based on the reduction in defense spending and changes in consumer priorities, Boeing has decided to expand its activities in Wichita vicinity for the purpose of reducing costs, increasing efficiency and promotion of competitiveness," said Mark Bass, vice president and general manager of Boeing's defense business units in the department for maintenance, modifications and updates.
However, Boeing has no estimates of how much the budget can be saved and associated costs in connection with the closure of the plant in Wichita.
According to Fox News TV channel, a division of Boeing in Wichita for five years suffered from the closure of a number of programs and the reduction of government contracts.
This plant is the basis for a business unit of Boeing Global Transport & Executive Systems. The unit was to support the installation for the U.S. Air Force aircraft, including B-52 aircraft program and the KC-46, which serves as a tanker aircraft.
 
The closure has an impact on mass layoffs. The first wave of layoffs at Boeing Wichita plant probably began in the third quarter of 2012.
