China from next year will build the airport in the city Nagdu, the Tibetan plateau. The airport is touted as the world's highest airport, 100 meters higher than the previous highest airport.

As reported by Xinhua, reported by Reuters on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, this airport will be located at an altitude of 4436 meters above sea level. Previous highest airport in the city of Qamdo, also in Tibet, with a height of 4334 meters.

To establish this airport, the Chinese government will spend up to 1.8 billion yuan, or about Rp2, 5 trillion. The work itself is predicted to take up to three years.

Tibetan plateau has had five civil airports. Two of them are only open a few months for a year because of bad weather. Construction of this airport is one of China's efforts in improving the quality of aviation, especially in remote areas and difficult to achieve.

Development in the Tibetan region at a cost of billions of yuan is also a way of taking care of the people of China in Tibet. The Chinese government said the construction of airports, highways and railroads is one effort to improve the standard of living on the plateau.

For more than 60 years, China's communist government ruled Tibet with an iron fist. Leaders of Tibet, the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan government in exile established to mengaspirasi Tibetans. Dalai Lama wants full autonomy for Tibet, but China wants to continue to rule to the fullest.
